The McGrath Clan is proud to announce the beginning of our McGrath Clan Gathering 2020 campaign at Castle McGrath, Termonmagrath, Pettigoe, Co. Donegal. The Ceann Fine Sean Alexander McGrath, (pictured) of the Cumann Chlann Mhic Craith / Clan McGrath Society said, “We want to make the McGrath Clan Gathering 2020 a bringing together of the McGrath diaspora from across the world. The uniquely rich and diverse culture and heritage of the McGrath Clan of Ulster has had on Irish and world history will be explored in detail. We especially look forward to exploring our Ulster ancestor Archbishop of Cashel, Tipperary Miler McGrath, who with 200 McGrath, McMenamin and Monaghan troops from Ulster had such an impact on the McGrath populatuon of Tipperary and Waterford up to the present day.
From our routes in the Royal house of O’Brien, High King of Ireland, to our links through fosterage and marriage to the O’Neill Kings of Ulster, to our long history as bards, bishops, coarbs, termoners and warrior poets, you will have the opportunity to explore them all and get close to the deep, rich, ancient, complex and diverse history of Ulster. Our McGrath Clan Gathering 2020 will be based in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, set in Ireland’s beautiful lakelands and the scene of many history making events. Enniskillen has the very best of Ireland’s accommodation and amenities. It is also centrally located to explore the sites and history associated with the Clan McGrath. Please keep in touch with gathering updates via our Facebook pages and our website www.clanmcgrath.org
This international McGrath Clan Gathering 2020 promises to be a unique experience like no other before. The North remembers, Clan McGrath remembers.”

We have had a number of enquiries regarding the Clan McGrath Coat of Arms armorial banner. This banner bearing what is sometimes but wrongly named the McGrath Crest is in fact a representation of the McGrath Coat of Arms as depicted on the grave tomb of Archbishop Miler McGrath in the ruins of the Cathedral Church of St. Patrick's on the Rock of Cashel. The Coat of Arms on his tomb is dated 1622 and is the earliest representation of the McGrath coat of arms in the world. Archbishop Miler McGrath was a native of Ulster and was born and raised in Termonmagrath which borders south Donegal and Co. Fermanagh. The McGrath Coat of Arms bears a sign of Miler's Ulster heritage with the three lions passant in the top left quarter. These three red lions on a white field were the personal arms of Miler's Father Donnacha McGrath, Chief of the Clan McGrath in Ulster. Our current Ulster Clan McGrath Chief, Ceann Fine, Chieftain (pictured below with banner) still bears three lions on his personal arms. To order the banner please contact the Clan McGrath Society / Cumman Chlann Mhic Craith by emailing [email protected] for information.
